When The Waters Rise

My heart hurts. There is an ache deep in my chest. An ache that is relentless, almost never ceasing. I feel trapped, as if I’m suffocating. Everyday tasks can be hard...so very hard. Somedays I just want to hide, to escape, to forget if just for a moment. And believe it or not, that’s not even the worst of it. The hardest part about this pain, this very real and physical pain is that my “injury” isn’t visible to the general public. The average person isn’t going to know my world is slowly crumbling around me. They aren’t going to know how utterly alone I can feel, even when surrounded by friends and family.

This kind of pain is gut wrenching. It can be caused by thousands of different life experiences and isn’t picky on where it resides. It will seep into your bones and settle into your soul. It will isolate you from the world, putting you right where Satan wants you to be. He is in his glory when you are in your own personal hell. So, how do you take back the control? You surrender it all to Christ. You trust Him with your junk and your anger and your pain. You have faith in Christ and in His plan. In 1 Peter 5:7 it says, “Give all your worries and care to God, for he cares about you.” Peter doesn’t say to give some of the worries. He doesn’t say God wants to pick and choose through your cares. No, God wants them all. Every. Last. One!

“I don’t wanna think. I may never understand. That my broken heart is a part of your plan..... Sometimes I gotta stop, remember that you’re God, and I am not so, thy will be done.” ~ Thy Will Be Done | Hillary Scott ~

We all have things we’re going through. We are find ourselves dealing with situations that are out of our control. We get mad and defensive and we lash out. Often lashing out at God. He doesn’t love me! He doesn’t see me! How can God claim to care for me and yet there’s all this pain? But as the song lyric reads, we are not God. We are not in control. When we choose to surrender that control to the cross and we lay it down, we open wide the door for faith. When our hearts hurt so badly that we can’t even catch our breath is when we need to let our faith take over. It is our soul connection to Christ. Faith is what will pull you to your feet when the world has sent you crashing to your knees.

Luke 6:48 reads, “It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it was well built.” Christ is our foundation. He is steady and solid and secure. No matter what we’re going through, no matter how angry we get, He isn’t going anywhere. He will stand strong and stand with us. Christ will take our worries and cares and He will lovingly hold them and us. He went to the cross for us. He loves us, so much and when we hurt, He hurts. He has a plan. He sees the bigger picture that we can’t see. The picture that includes His promises to us. So, let the waters rise around you. Let the mountains fall and crumble at your feet. You are a child of God. You are loved by the most amazing heavenly father. He will not leave you. He will be your personal buoy as the waves crash around you. Just don’t let go. In those moments when you don’t understand the why of it and the pain is so very real, know that your God is just as real and is right beside you. Exodus tells us that “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” He is fighting with you when you can and fighting for you when you can’t. When your pain becomes all-consuming, let it go...be still and cling to your Father.

“Let the waters rise I will stand as the oceans roar. Let the earth shake beneath me let the mountains fall. You are God over the storm and I am Yours.” ~ I Am Yours | Lauren Daigle ~
